That My Opinion Ultimately Doesn't Matter. 30 Day Blog Challenge: #6 My Views on Mainstream Music

4 Artists that I was a big fan of before they became super mainstream:

I personally don't mind when artists go mainstream and they still maintain the substance in their music. You can't achieve globalization without becoming that artist that is an everyday face. In high school I was the biggest Evanescence fan, loved that I knew the music that no one else knew unless they digged deeper than the hit hit songs like "Bring Me to Life", which I feel barely scratched the surface of their true talents. The same for the other ones.

But sometimes things go wrong with mainstream:

Ok, I know someone is going to get onto me for putting Ke$ha. Her music is dumb (yet catchy) to me like the other two, but I'll just consider her an opinion. In my opinion, we let a lot of pointless music come into our stream, and I personally wonder, why did this person really become popular? We pay these people to give us party music. Thats my answer. I go to the club and jam (not that hard unless I'm drunk) to all three of these artists. Sometimes we just want to feel good without worrying so hard about lyrics and substance...can't be mad at that I guess.

Mainstream female artists really go a little overboard with fashion:
Before and After Fashion

Nicki Minaj

Lady Gaga

But I do respect the envelops that mainstream artists push. A lot of them are creating brands. The question is are they fostering their true creativity or truly not expressing the real people. Have their images become characters that they have created? Either way, its entertaining.

I don't have any personal problems with mainstream music...except for certain artists, and like I said  my opinion ultimately doesn't matter. They will still make their money despite the opinion of one music critic, and we will all have that popular artist that brings us together as music listeners!

That Some Things are Better Left Unsaid. 30 Day Blog Challenge: #5 Things I want to say to an ex

Nothing. I don't believe that it is ever a good idea to discuss personal relationship issues on a blog (or facebook, or twitter, etc). Thought you'd be getting something juicy? Not this time. But there is a method to my madness.

I'm a strong believer that when you leave relationships and friendships you come out better if you get the way you feel out. Then, you can look back on situations saying that you resolved them as best as you could. Then, you wouldn't need to blog about them, write them on Facebook, and tweet about them on the off chance (sure...) that somebody will see it. Saying the truth directly to an ex when you part is important, whether they want to listen at the time or not. We all know that growth is important during the messy part of breaking up and after, because if you don't learn from your will make them again.

I'm not saying you should call your ex from fifteen years ago and tell him how you are greatly upset about something he did, or that you are sorry for something you did (you may laugh, but it happens) but if so, things like that are better said in person.

So, to my exes...I hope you learned from your mistakes, because I make it a goal in life to learn from mine.

That My Perception of Friendship has changed.....

I think that throughout the years we discover that you can't be friends with everyone. Its really sad to think about, but its true. I think that my perception of what true friendship truly means has changed, and that the older I get, the more I go through, and the further I get in life the more important it is for me to choose the right people in my surroundings. My advice to anyone is to be careful who you keep in your life because it affects so many things. It takes a real person to be a real friend and sometimes you have to be careful how you treat people.

Andrea puts it in a good way......

10 Signs that you are not completely a good friend (yet)
Feel free to replace "she" with "he". I do recognize that a guy could be reading this and that friends for females could be guys.

1. You lie. Big one!!!! If you lie about, it will come out. Just don't try it.
2. You are patronizing. If you think that someone isn't as smart, or cute, or awesome as you....and you make a point to make it known. you really need to rethink your life. Friends take pride in helping their friends see their strengths. Everybody has them and you have weaknesses.
3. You talk behind their backs. There's a difference between seeking advice from other friends about a way to deal with an issue and flat out dogging a person out. If you have to do that....just stop being friends with them now, you obviously don't care about them on that will be doing them a huge favor. If you want to do it to other people, whatever thats your business, but don't call those people friends.
4. They are going through something and you disappear. Need I say more? There's a difference between not knowing how to deal with something directly and not being available. Example: I've never experienced death, but if my friend is going through it, I'll make sure I'm at least on her call list.
5. You don't correct them when they are wrong. This is a hard one. When my friends do f-ed up stuff, Its hard to reason sometimes, but I am a firm believer that moral growth is important to relationships, and as completely uncomfortable as it is, I gotta say something at least once. Not in a patronizing way *see number 2* but just to make them think about consequences attached to wrong doings. Hey, none of us is perfect, and we all do messed up stuff, But, I'd rather my friends tell me one on one "Hey, you are being a b*itch in this situation."
6. You act competitive/jealous. This can single handed-ly not only mess up your friendship, but is a sign that you lack the ability to look at your life on your own terms. Looking at your life in comparison to other people's will have consequences. Envy is a human emotion, and its natural to want something someone else has. But your reaction is supposed to be happiness when your friends gets something good in her life. And vice versa. Being a crab in the bucket is wack!
7. You steal/flirt with her boyfriend/ex boyfriend. Nuff said....especially if she doesn't know. With the ex....if she doesn't care I suppose its fine. I just try not to risk it personally because I know how I would feel. If you are willing to lose a friend....steal her man I guess. I promise it won't be a positive trade off.
8. You can't keep her secrets/personal information. Girl code. Article one section two. LOL
9. You keep things from her. I guess this is the opposite of lying. If you have feelings about your relationship between each other, and don't reveal them, the relationship will not improve and you will harbor unresolved feelings. This also applies to when someone is doing her wrong. This is debated and people have different variations and opinions to the second part, so thats strictly coming from me and my personal expectations of my friends.
10. You don't spend time with her purposely. Ok, if she annoys you, why are you friends? It could be she may exhibit some of the other qualities and that's why, but refer to #5.

Ok. I'm off my soapbox for today. It's worth it to work on friendships and no one is perfect. Hope you guys like it. Feel free to comment. Adios Amigos!

To my friends I love you!

That I haven't read a book in a long time... 30 Day Challenge: #3 A Book That I love

An old time favorite

In high school I was big on poetry, and I loved this book, it included poetry and other writings by teenage girls of color (about their lives, the things they go through as women, and the pride they have in their heritage), but honestly, the writings were so good, it can be considered an adult book also. I'm actually compelled to go read it again! I couldn't find any excerpts online, but I promise its worth it!

I just hope that I'm Alive for it....30 Day Challenge: #2 Something I feel Strongly About

What I feel strongly about the most is my success. Life as an ambitious girl is hard, and you have to make a lot of sacrifices to get where you want to be. Its difficult to be that person who has to start at the bottom in my adult life, but I know that it will be worth it at the end of the day to know the things I accomplished.

I am in school for Social Work, which requires me to feel strongly about a lot topics, and people, and also have power over a lot of people's lives. I don't take this lightly, but it makes me happy to know what things I will do in the future, as well as terrifies me. But the confidence that I will look back on my life with pride is important to me.I'm also looking forward to being a business woman, just not sure which way to go with that one yet.

Success is not always about money or a career. I hope success means I will have a happy family one day. And having that kin of partnership with an ambitious guy is something I look forward to. That's kinda hard these days(my generation tends to have different views on relationships), but its something I want to also look back on and be happy about.

To Be Killed Softly with Words

Sometimes someone else can write something that explains exactly how you feel about life.

If I should have a daughter…

If I should have a daughter…“Instead of “Mom”, she’s gonna call me “Point B.” Because that way, she knows that no matter what happens, at least she can always find her way to me. And I’m going to paint the solar system on the back of her hands so that she has to learn the entire universe before she can say “Oh, I know that like the back of my hand.”
She’s gonna learn that this life will hit you, hard, in the face, wait for you to get back up so it can kick you in the stomach. But getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to remind your lungs how much they like the taste of air. There is hurt, here, that cannot be fixed by band-aids or poetry, so the first time she realizes that Wonder-woman isn’t coming, I’ll make sure she knows she doesn’t have to wear the cape all by herself. Because no matter how wide you stretch your fingers, your hands will always be too small to catch all the pain you want to heal. Believe me, I’ve tried.
And “Baby,” I’ll tell her “don’t keep your nose up in the air like that, I know that trick, you’re just smelling for smoke so you can follow the trail back to a burning house so you can find the boy who lost everything in the fire to see if you can save him. Or else, find the boy who lit the fire in the first place to see if you can change him.”
But I know that she will anyway, so instead I’ll always keep an extra supply of chocolate and rain boats nearby, ‘cause there is no heartbreak that chocolate can’t fix. Okay, there’s a few heartbreaks chocolate can’t fix. But that’s what the rain boots are for, because rain will wash away everything if you let it.
I want her to see the world through the underside of a glass bottom boat, to look through a magnifying glass at the galaxies that exist on the pin point of a human mind. Because that’s how my mom taught me. That there’ll be days like this, “There’ll be days like this my momma said” when you open your hands to catch and wind up with only blisters and bruises. When you step out of the phone booth and try to fly and the very people you wanna save are the ones standing on your cape. When your boots will fill with rain and you’ll be up to your knees in disappointment and those are the very days you have all the more reason to say “thank you,” ‘cause there is nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline no matter how many times it’s sent away.
You will put the “wind” in win some lose some, you will put the “star” in starting over and over, and no matter how many land mines erupt in a minute be sure your mind lands on the beauty of this funny place called life.
And yes, on a scale from one to over-trusting I am pretty damn naive but I want her to know that this world is made out of sugar. It can crumble so easily but don’t be afraid to stick your tongue out and taste it.
“Baby,” I’ll tell her “remember your mama is a worrier but your papa is a warrior and you are the girl with small hands and big eyes who never stops asking for more.”
Remember that good things come in threes and so do bad things and always apologize when you’ve done something wrong but don’t you ever apologize for the way your eyes refuse to stop shining.
Your voice is small but don’t ever stop singing and when they finally hand you heartbreak, slip hatred and war under your doorstep and hand you hand-outs on street corners of cynicism and defeat, you tell them that they really ought to meet your mother.

To have standards! 30 Day Challenge: #1 Five Ways to Win My Heart ♥

So, I'm literally staring at the screen not knowing where to start. But I can't back down from challenges on the first day! The first day of the challenge just dove right into things. There's no handbook to win someone's heart (duh) but i guess after sitting here contemplating this ridiculous question here's what I got:

 1. Don't be afraid of the friend zone. It doesn't always lead you astray. At least for me, I prefer to be friends with someone before they win my heart. There's some level of trust with friends. I know you are saying yada yada yada I'm full of crap, but not really. I acknowledge that there are guy friends I probably wouldn't date, but that doesn't exclude the ones that probably have qualities that attract me. I know the boundaries for friendship, and that its risky to cross them, but would to it for the guy I think is right. I really value relationships where I can be emotionally honest with someone, and feel like that's reciprocated, and that the relationship is long lasting.
2. Make me laugh, try new things with me.....and have good conversation!! The girl on this picture looks very uncomfortable. Probably cause shes on a date with a boring guy who doesn't spark her intellect. Its not the easiest thing dating the ambitious girl in America, but we like new opportunities to try new things, discuss controversial topics, and laugh! I'm a sucker for funny movies. If you can't be that adventurous....I may get bored.
3. Don't be a creeper. There are different types of creepers:
  • The stalker creeper. This guy seems to pop up all the time, and not just in places you know you both just happen to go. He also has figured out your class schedule, knows where you work, where you live, and everything on your facebook. This is not flattering guys....its creepy. A less offensive version of this guy doesn't physically follow you, but internet stalks you.
  • The crude creeper. As I said before, I like to laugh, but if I don't know you and you point out my body parts in front of my friends and make comments, or say suggestive things that you haven't developed the right to say.......ew.
  • The silent creeper. Ok. Its fine to be quiet or shy, but it makes me uncomfortable if a guy never talks, you know he likes you, and hes just always staring. Women are attracted to confidence, so sometimes you gotta fake it til you make it. Just be confident.
 4. Be Ambitious! I cant stress this one more! An ambitious girl needs an ambitious guy! There's nothing better than a guy with goals. Score! It doesn't matter what it is (well it does a little), just as long as we are both working hard at something. I love relationships for romance, but I also view them as partnerships, and love when I can be inspired by a guy who wants to do something with his life.

 5. Be romantic. What can I say? I'm a hopeless romantic. I'm not saying lay it on me all at once (that might actually backfire) but once I'm interested, I like the whole simple romance exchange. Every woman likes to feel special. If we aren't, why be with us?

There you have it. Adios. I'm on to the next one!

To think ahead

To Eat this not that......No seriously! <--------------------------

I'd heard of this site before, but I never realized how detailed it was. For every resturaunt it tells you what similar foods outrank each other in the health test. It even does the same with grocery brands! I am far from a calorie counter, of course, way too skinny for that, I actually like gaining weight, so it tells you general health facts, not just weight loss. If its worth it to you, you would be surprised that you should eat ______ over ___________.

Here is a little game to test how much you know!! ------------->

A New Trick!

RECOMMENDATION!!! I love AndreasChoice....a Youtube channel where a chick named Andrea shows the awesomest style tips::

That Some Things are just BOGUS

1. I don't even have to say anything just look at these and you know what I'm talking about:

Ladies, come on. I'm not going to say much about planking other than to say....are you really that bored? Don't get me wrong, I have known people who have planked and its probably funny while you are drunk and in the moment (however that's when it gets dangerous sometimes). But, When you are just kinda doing it soberly or in your right mind....its quite wack to me...I just don't get the planking thing sorry...find something productive to do, or at least actually funny!

That buying a car SUCKS!

Ok so the car above is just amazing, but totally out of my range. But nonetheless, buying your first car always sucks. And it sucks even more as the ambitious girl who has hmmmm 80 things on her mind. Some people have to figure these things out on there own sadly. Here's some things I learned about buying a (used) car.....

1.I'm a girl, so any seller (dealership, private, scam artist) is going to attempt to get over on me....thats apparently life. I know a girl who tried to buy a used car and was told it was worth 11,000 when it was really worth 7,000. Thank gosh for Kelly Blue Book ------> . This is not uncommon, and plenty of sellers even do it to guys when they pick up on the fact that they don't know what's going on. The solution i keep hearing is take a guy with me. But I wonder who would I really drag as a figurative body guard to "protect" me from the mean car salesmen? Not that simple.

2. Financing sucks because college students don't have established credit, and those dealerships will charge you more that claim they don't check for it. So what happens when you can't for up X000 dollars right up may just be getting bamboozled. And stuck paying for insurance plus a jacked up car payment or interest rate....doesn't sound too good to me! I hear the solution is a larger down payment....but who knows in our economic times.

3. There are Lemons everywhere! Its always advised to have cars inspected, but that costs money if the seller hasn't already done it. No one wants to buy a car and have it break down on you a few months later. A family friend advised me find a mechanic and flirt my way to a new friend who would help, eh...could be, but not sure if I'm willing to risk the comprising of judgment or possible stalker situation.

4. How much does a decent car cost? That is so confusing. I hear 5000 is that minimum for dependency. But I have a friend who spent 1000 for her car and its lasted her 4 years so far!

5. If your gas mileage is more than 12,000 to 15,000 per year (age of car), that's not a good thing. But thats not always a predictor of how good a car is.

So, there's obviously a lot of factors involved with this decision. Make, Model, Size, Mileage, Price, Gas Milage......smh.....I just have a headache cause its stressing me out to decide alone. If you guys have any opinions, let it out....I'm going to get some Aleve.

Honesty is the Best Policy

Ok, this isnt something I learned today, but something I really have believed forever. Its more than a pet peeve when someone is dishonest with me. So I found an honesty survey, so I will be honest with you:

1. Honestly, how many people have you kissed? I never really counted that, but I guess like....ten maybe?
2.Honestly, what color is your underwear? i guess? I can't believe I'm saying that.....
3.Honestly, what's on your mind? All of the challenges I will have in the Fall Semester.
4. Honestly, what are you doing right now? Sitting in a computer lab.
5 Honestly, do you think you are attractive? Yes I do. I think I'm beautiful.
6. Honestly, have you done something bad today?: Procrastination messing around with this survey.
7. Honestly, do you watch Disney channel? No....wack
8. Honestly, are you jealous of someone right now? I'm jealous that one of my friends just won a computer lol
9. Honestly, what makes you happy most of the time? Dancing and funny movies, and music.
10. Honestly, do you bite your nails? Yep, its a horrible habit.
11. Honestly, do you want to see someone this very minute? I wish I could see my friends that are living out of town.
12. Honestly, do you have a deep dark secret? Not that I know of, maybe I've internalized something and forgot it.
13. Honestly, when is the last time you have been to taco bell? A looong time. I need to fix that.
14. Honestly, are you loyal? Yes. Very, sometimes I think too loyal.
15.Honestly, are you in denial? lol yea about a couple of things.
16. Honestly, where would you rather be right now? WORKING! Man I need a job
17. Honestly, do you like someone? Maybe. Not any strong liking
18. Honestly, is it going anywhere with them? Not sure...
19.Honestly, what was the last thing someone said to you? Goodnight.
20. Honestly, what did you say to them? Goodnight. lol
21. Gone out of your way to make a new friend: Define out of my way.
22.Honestly, do you kiss and tell? My friends yea I'd tell them. I guess that makes me not a lady. lol

*Anger Section*

23. What do you do when you're mad? Listen to angry music.
24. What's the worst thing you've done when you were mad? Hit someone.
25. Ever made anyone cry when you were mad? I don't think so, I may have hurt their feelings though.
26. Do you swear when you're mad? F*ck Yea!
*Crying Section*
27.when was the last time you REALLY cried your heart out? Oh gosh like last week. Something bad happened
28. Cried yourself too sleep? I don't really think that's possible

33. What can make you happy? Trying fun new things!
34. Does being with your friends make you happy? YEP ALWAYS!

*Self-Esteem Section*
35. Do you believe in yourself? In general yes, but there's a lot of times when I'm really hard on myself.
36.When people say they think you are good looking/pretty, do you deny that you are? Haha, sometimes. I don't take compliments easily.
37. Are you one of those people that think they are ugly, dumb, and gross? What? No.....WTF?

OK weird quiz.....but funny. Adios. Keep it 100%!

La Musica

So, I'm a very eclectic person. And music is my Love. So one thing that I have learned is that when you are going through something there are always songs, or even artists that help drastically for motivation. Music can cure just about anything. So, here are a few songs that I use on the daily to get me pumped (again, I have bookoo music, so this is not a good representation, just my current frequents:

Firstly I love pink, introducing my ipod:

I'll start with my shorter, older twin who's grill is a little bit messier, Corinne Bailey Rae (just kidding about the grill, she's beautiful!) I started liking her in high school, and everybody really thinks I look like her. Her self titled Debut album has a song that I really think is for me, or in reality, the younger she entitled "Put your records on" LISTEN!!!!!

Switching it up for you. NO, I am not a Harajuku barbie, nor do i speak the language in the nictionary -----> ( ) YES THERE ACTUALLY IS ONE, WTF? But I am a Nicki fan. And even though she is commercialized now (VERY), I am an avid fan of her old mixtapes. Motivational Nicki songs I like right now are "here I am", "Keys Under Palm Trees", "Dear Old Nicki (Or Jiji in my mind)", "Fly" and honestly countless others. Please ladies, lets stop being crabs in the bucket (direct quote, haha) and give Nicki her props.

"I got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine, I got a love and I know that its all mine oh". I know its cheesy, but I love that scene from "Easy A" where her grandmother gives her a birthday card with the song. It feels so good once you keep listening to it. I'm not the biggest fan of Natasha Bedingfield's vocals, but her music is always feel good nonetheless.

Amy Lee is the Shizs. I couldn't create a motivation music list without her, I named my first guitar after her (RIP). I'm not sure If I recommend Evanescence's latest album (blasphemous), I'm sorry It does her no justice, but when you just feel like, well feeling....and hearing the most amazing voice ever, Amy is your girl. Not to mention, coming from a poet.....just look at some of her lyrics and you will understand my teenage infatuation with her.

So, do you wonder why I'm so cool, sweet, fresh, and clean? ITS THE GOD IN ME! This song has the best form of motivation. It also illustrates how you never can judge a book by his cover. Just because someone is fabulous doesn't mean they got it easy. Hey every Christian woman should try her best to shine and be motivational.

I have a love/hate relationship with Beyonce. I despise the song "Run the World" Namely for these reasons:

However, I love to listen to "Ego" and "Upgrade You" when I just feeling being cocky chick (AKA Sasha Fierce). Beyonce is good for that. And I do consider myself a fan, and respect her hustle. I aint got the kind of talent to strut across stage and sing like crazy and act.....well not acting. Love you Beyonce!

If I meet a guy with the swagger(yea i said swagger) Drake has, I may just be in trouble. I automatically zone in and listen when ever a beat slows down and I hear his voice...Not to mention his lyrics. Soooo. If you see me walking around campus with a thank me later tshirt on, you know why. That album is awesome and I have no idea what his sophmore album can do to top it. But it possibly can. I still look back on his mixtapes and see similar, maybe even better quality. So, play your cards right and I may invite you to our wedding.(maybe). Cause together we'd "Shut it Down"

Its scary how much I can relate to Rhianna. Who care's what the media says, she adds a definitely unpredictability to mainstream that I feel never goes over the top (except for S&m I hate that song). "RockStar 101" is my feel good Rhianna choice, but I still love her when shes not so outrages and making a statement (I.e man down, and love the way you lie).

For now there's only one Wale song that just gets my crunk and that is "The Ambitious Girl" He's a poet too! Go check it out. I like him as an artist, he seems very versatile (He was on a song with Wocka Flocka....come on) But please listen to this song!

So there's my music soapbox. It was impossible to create a complete list.....really....impossible. Dueces!

Some Simple Skin Tips.....and wow I'm actually writing in my Blog

I haven't blogged in years, probably because I just didn't have the time, or need the outlet or wanted the drama....blah blah blah.

So, usually in life, I didn't really care to explore this thing called outer beauty, wanted people to see me for who I am inside and all that jazz (and lets be honest, things get complicated when your looks step on people's toes), but now I'm changing my mind and saying hey, why not be the best me I can be?

Some of you know that my favorite quote is:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

So, instead of shrinking into my little corner, I decided to truly live behind it.

But, now I have a few things to share. I started wearing makeup.....yay? And as most people know, started changing my hair a lot...sometimes a girl just wants to look cute. lol. But anyway here's me now.....

But, anyway, I discovered a couple of things that I notice contributed GREATLY to healthy natural beauty:

I know these things are random, but they all are AMAZING. Water is definitely the most important. According to many people (important people!) You are supposed to have 8 or 9 cups a day. I just buy and and grab a couple on my way out of the door, and a water bottle always helps. I know we all love our flavored drinks, but I try to limit it to maybe once a day to start.

Carrot juice is something my dad force fed us when I was growing up, but now I love it, and also crave it sometimes (ewww). But seriously, my skin glows like crazy and I feel more energized!!!!! I recommend Boathouse farms, which you can get from Walmart.

Biotin is a B vitamin that will kick start hair, skin, and nail growth. I have tried it in the past, and I guess I had positive results. I have a friend who is currently taking it and noticed that her hair is growing drastically.

EGGS!!!! I like eggs. I put egg on my face (funny figure of speech) last night and my skin is soft as silk!!!! Nature is the best source of beauty! Anyway. Its easy, just take an egg, beat it, and apply. It will dry up on your face after a few min, and you leave it for a second, and rinse it off. When you wake up the next morning I promise you will notice the difference.

So in the future, I will share with you what I learn....Not just about beauty, the world isn't all about that......Loves, Jiji
