When and where were you born?
I was born January 22, 1988 in Manhatten, NY
Where did you grow up?
I am a Southern girl, raised in Birmingham AL.
What was it like?
Growing
up, I was very involved with my city. I learned a lot about my culture
with Birmingham being the home of the civil rights movement, and it
possesses a culture unlike any other.
Who were your parents?
I was adopted by my grandparents, Patricia and Henry M.
What were your parents like?
My parents were very dedicated to teaching us to love who we were and having goals that were big. They were very honest about their opinions of the world, and the lessons it brought.
Did you have a nickname? How’d you get it?
My
Nickname Growing up was Jiji. I got it as a derivative of my full name,
but I believe to me it represents my feisty side, or the part of my
personality that doesn't quit.
What did you think your life would be like when you were older? Growing
up I wasn't sure where I would end up. I just knew that I wanted to be
something big. I often prayed because I knew that I didn't have a lot of
things other people had. I had a very humble life, and was taught that
education was the way to ensure success. But as first in family to go to
college, I many times had to create my own methods and ambitions. I
began thinking I would be a nurse because I loved a helping profession,
and later became  a social worker. I never thought that would be my
calling since I was taken from my mother at a young age, but it turned
out to be destiny. When I began doing pageants I had many doubts from
myself and others, but something told me that if I followed through, I
would be filling the role I've always wanted. The motivator, and the
person who did what many told her she could not.
What was the happiest moment of your life? The saddest?
The
happiest moment of my life was graduating from college. The saddest was
learning that my mother had Cancer. She is now a survivor
Who was the most important person in your life?
My mother is the most important person in my life
Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did that person teach you?
I
think that there are so many influences in my life that it would be
hard to choose. I have had the pleasure to meet so many inspirational
people, and hope to meet many more
What are the most important lessons you’ve learned in life?
The
most important lesson I have learned in life that bad things will
happen to everyone, no matter who they are, but succes is determined by
those who never quit.
Are there any words of wisdom you’d like to pass along?
Work
hard, Play hard. Life is too short to not be ambitious and to not have
fun, because there are some who aren't blessed to do both. These things
create balance.
What are you proudest of in your life?
I'm proud that I have stayed true to myself, and that I have learned from my mistakes.
How has your life been different than what you’d imagined?
I've had different obstacles than I have expected, but achieved more.
How would you like to be remembered? As a strong woman who left behind a legacy.
What does your future hold? STAY TUNED!
